Message VTCs. IMHO, using the aftermarket "static" cam timing gears is the disadvantage.

If you want adjustability, get the 1994+ intake cam gears. They are adjustable, but in stock form it requires removal to adjust. However, they can be easily modified to allow for easy adjustment without having to remove them. Basically, use longer 10mm bolts and weld a nut to the end of it so you can turn the locking bolts to allow the inner hub to freely rotate for adjustment. The heads on these bolts are on the backside of the gear which isn't accessible unless you remove the gear. Once you have the longer bolts installed and the nuts welded to the ends, you can adjust them easily. Just be sure to use an engraver and mark the gears before you remove the bolts so you retain the correct "0^" position. You can go even further and use a protractor to mark off your single degree marks from there.

The slots in the 1994+ VTC gears are big enough to allow for some +/-10^ of adjustment (crankshaft referenced). This way, you'll have the benefit of that 10^ of intake cam advancement that the VTCs provide through the bottom end and midrange to add a significant amount of torque. It would be beneficial to raise your VTC release point as well since the greddy manifolds and turbos flow considerably better than stock turbos and stock manifolds. You wont experience the negative effects of exhaust gas reversion until higher RPM (around 6800-7000RPM actually) so bumping the VTC advancement release up to this higher RPM will allow you to make more bottom/midrange torque and not sacrifice top end power.

Right now, with the adjutable gears you have, you can either tune it for a ton of bottom end, a ton of top-end, or a midpoint balance of the two. The VTCs will allow you to have your cake and eat it too. :)
